Philadelphia is a city rich in history and public art. Frolicking around the city with no agenda is not an issue as you’ll likely run into interesting displays of murals or sculptures.
Here’s how I spent 24 hours in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Things to Do in Philadelphia
Liberty Bell: Inscribed on the Liberty Bell is the message, “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof.” No one knows when and how the Liberty Bell first cracked. The crack seen today is actually the attempted repair on the bell that caused the crack to widen. It used to be rung in the Pennsylvania State House and is now on display in the Independence Visitor Center.
Philadelphia Magic Gardens: Walk through the Philadelphia Magic Gardens and you’ll be surrounded by a display of mosaic tiles by Isaiah Zagar. It is quite the spectacle.
Reading Terminal Market: Stop by the indoor farmer’s market to grab a bite to eat, smell fresh flowers or do a little shopping from local artisans.
Fashion District Philadelphia: Located in the downtown, Philadelphia is a shopping district that spans across three blocks that is filled with plenty of shopping and dining options.
Public Art: The city of Philadelphia has the most public art of any city in America and has been dubbed the city of murals. One of the popular public art displays is the Love sign located in LOVE park. You can spend a few hours walking around the city exploring different murals and sculptures.
Rocky Steps & Statue: One of the most popular tourist attractions of Philadelphia is the Rocky steps where Sylvester Stallone filmed the movie, “Rocky Balboa.”
Where to Eat in Philadelphia
Green Egg’s Cafe: They are open for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Please note, this restaurant only takes cash. They deliver a punch when it comes to french toast. I highly recommend.
Sonny’s Famous Steaks: When in Philly, you need to get a Philly! Philadelphia is known for their thin slices of beefsteak smothered in melted cheese in a hoagie. It is delicious.
Harp & Crown: My advice is to come hungry because this restaurant delivers for dinner. I had a delicious three course meal shared amongst my table as well as an order of dry aged steak.
