A Guide to Spending Half a Day in St Louis, Missouri

St Louis is a marvel that will delight not only your eyes, but your taste buds as well. This city does not disappoint with hiking trails, water views, art, excitement and food.

I have visited St Louis a total of 3 times; however, I have always visited for the purposes of business. I had 8 hours to spare one of the days I was here, so I decided to take advantage and explore.

Here’s how I spent 8 hours in St Louis, Missouri

My first stop was breakfast at Yolklore. This is a wonderful restaurant serving breakfast eats, booze, desserts, smoothies and coffees. It is busy, so expect to wait for a seat, but it is worth it for the gooey butter cake. The gooey butter cake is their specialty dessert, and it is as delicious as it is gooey.

After filling up my belly for the day ahead, I partook in the following activities:

  • The Gateway Arch:  Located in the Gateway Arch National Park is the tallest monument in the United States rising at a height of 630 feet. The arch is a representation of the “gateway” to the West and symbol of the expansion westward. A quick 4 minute ride can be taken to the top and don’t forget about the free museum under the arch!
  • Laumeier Sculpture Park:  Visit this wonderful outdoor sculpture park with more than 70 sculptures to admire. It is free and open daily from 8 AM until 30 minutes before sunset.
  • City Museum:  Immerse yourself in this whimsical experience as you explore an unmapped art maze and playground. The artists are constantly changing the layout in this 10 foot, 6000,000 square foot building making each visit a little bit of a different experience. It’s a great place for the entire family to enjoy!

I recommend visiting in the summer, or fall. I got stuck in an ice storm one of the times I was in St Louis and it was freezing.
