Located in Yucatan Mexico is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World of Chichen Itza. The Great Pyramid of El Castillo or Pyramid of Kukulkan is the tallest and center structure of the Chichen Itza archeological site. This archeological site is comprised of several ruins inclusive of Temple of Jaguars, Great Ball Court, Platform of the Jaguars and Eagles, Platform of Venus, Temple of the Warriors, Group of One Thousand Columns, High Priest’s Grave and El Caracol Observatory as well as the Sacred Cenote.
Hours:
Open daily 8 AM – 4:30 PM. The last admission is at 4 PM to the ruins.
Cost:
- Adults 533 MXN (25.94 USD) inclusive of fees
The fees and price of the tickets total 533 MXN, but are paid in two separate transactions in person. The fees are for the Institute of History and Anthropology of Mexico and Ministry of Culture of Yucutan.
Skip the line tickets are available online for purchase; however, they are 62 USD. We arrived around 9 AM in July 2022 and were able to purchase tickets on site and had no issues with parking.

Where to Stay:
Valladolid, Mexico is the closest city near Chichen Itza; however, I recommend staying at Hotel Okaan pictured above that is outside of Valladolid, Mexico. It is secluded hotel that is about 4.1 miles from Chichen Itza.
Noches de Kukulkan
Noches de Kukulkan starts with a night tour through the ruins of Chichen Itza that are illuminated in blues, reds, whites and purples. After the tour, you’ll take your assigned seat where a 30 minute light and sound show will be projected across the Great Pyramid of El Castillo. The show is completely in Spanish; however, the display and story will still invoke emotion as tales of the Mayan civilization are told.
Hours:
The entrance opens at 7 PM for a show time at 8 PM.
Cost:
Tickets can be purchased at this link, or they can be purchased on site; however, they are not available for purchase until 2:30 PM.
- Tuesday-Saturday 630 MXN (31.59 USD), Sunday 300 MXN (15.04 USD)
- The night show is not available on Monday nights.
Parking:
The cost of the parking pass is 80 pesos. The parking pass purchased during the day is not valid at night and another parking pass will need to be purchased.
